Leaves: deeply divided as far as the central vein; resembling teeth of a double comb; completely submerged; alternate or connected to the stem in more or less regular whorls.
Flowers: hermaphrodite; self-fertile; flowering from May to June.
Pollination: by insects, cleistogamy.
