Taxonomy
Heliantheae is a Tribe of the Subfamily Asteroideae of Asteraceae. Funk has recognised many Tribes: Bhaleaea, Chaenactideae, Coreopsidae, Eupatorieae, Feddeeae, Helenieae, Heliantheae, Inuleae, Madieae, Millerieae, Neurolaeneae, Perityleae, Polymnieae, Tageteae. Together they are monophyletic. In the Apg3 classification Heliantheae, Helenieae and Eupatorieae form a clade.
In the Plant theory Asteroideae is split in four clades Heliantheae, Astereae, Senecioneae and Anthemideae. Heliantheae is placed in Subphase 4, together with the smaller Subfamilies Helenieae and Eupatorieae.
