A man 44 years old, with backache. He is calm, looks confident en worn out. He has had pain in the back for years, since growing up. Muscle spasms in the back, pain all his life. He has a bad back and has hurt it now and then. 12 years ago from being forced at work, he had extreme pain, and some years ago a fall, again extreme pain. He couldn't stand up etc, and had morfine and anti-inflammatories. MRI: multi-disc degeneration, bone is growing into the spinal column and nerves. He has relaxed bands, the muscles have to do all the work, and he is in conflict all the time (relaxing versus tension). Had codeine for 30 years, and it helps, celebrex helps a little, and now he is not stiff, but tight. He has very good muscle control, he knows his body, and moving is ok. Without medicines, he has constant pain, daily tight muscles dorsal, and low back is like a vice, very difficult to turn over. What he remembers, at age 11 his head was drawn aside for weeks. He lived in Canada. Now he is for just 6 years in Europe, for adventure in life, he brought his daughter with him, she is 15 year old, he wants to show his daughter what he can. His future is not so strong. Life: travelling, seeing family, language. Till now he got massages, Rolfing, physio, chiropractic, and dry needling, with no help. He feels constantly in conflict, if relaxing the vertebrae are shifting, and, the ligaments are very elastic. Too much tension gives nerve pain. As a child, he was asthmatic, for his first 3 years he lived in a hospital, and often had constriction of the throat. With pneumonia, he lived in a tent in isolation. Still, he is using inhalers. He feels the asthma, he can control it, and he can live with it. Milk and cheese aggravate the asthma. He sports a few times a week, he did much skiing, fell much, and injured himself. Since living in Holland he lost weight, 15 kilos, in a half year, due to the healthy food, and much cycling. In Canada, he was a carpenter, which was not easy for him back, then in Europe, he was chef-kok, in a restaurant, an excellent job. Food is a passion, as a child he had his first lessons. He likes everything and eats everything. Then he did school for massage therapy, now he is working as a painter for the money. Used to play hockey at a high level, and like to work with people, sport and pain are issues. He is good at managing pain, other people can't hold it. He is always tired, and not so active, has bad concentration, he feels his mind can keep going, but the body slows him down. He sleeps well, but turning gives him pain and then he wakes up, sleep is not long enough. Dreams: affright of it, because: feels like they come true, he has a psychic ability, to leave his body, only during sleep, he has déja views, after something bad happens, he knows he has seen it already. As a child, he felt reincarnated and had contact with his sisters without talking. As a child he had a fear of loss, fear of losing parents, was very shy, and quiet, everybody was busy, had not so much contact, and felt lost as a child, as in his early memories, the living in the tent. He holds his father's hand till 12 yr. His mother left when he was 11, but had a good upbringing. Father was well-to-do, he felt privileged. When he can focus on work or the gym, he doesn't feel the pain. He has trained himself to ignore the pain. Relaxing and having no occupation aggravates. A chefkok was my passion, but he wanted no longer to work all the holidays, etc, I had to give up the passion, but he didn't miss it, and now a low income. In good periods when he stops painkilling, he is not able to stand up and has to lie down. Convolvulus duartinus didn't help.
Analysis
Silverserie: nerve trunks, culture, language, dreams, felt privileged. Silver series: shoulders, lungs, psychic, travelling, culture, languages interesting, communicating without words Phase 4: stable, on his own, confident, balanced tens-relaxing, ok with his position.
Phase 5: travelling.
Phase 7: pain is extreme, clinging to father, degenerative problems, fear of loss, want to go out of the sensitivity, give him fear (is a typical Phase 7 theme, wanting to go out of it, left it behind). Leaving body. Giving up passion.
Prescription: Guarea trichilioides MK.
Follow up
after six weeks, there is improvement, for the pain and the back. Tension in muscles is less and more relaxing. More functional energy now, and the pain is not in his mind anymore all day. This week without painkillers was ok, till the weekend. Clear in his head now. He is not anymore a zombie all day. With pain this week: a short rest, and lying down helps. Sleep is ok now, there is less waking up, and sleep is deeper. Still no dreams. Lungs are unchanged. He has had an allergy, since living in Europe, on the skin: for chemicals, wooden products, and treas, he had to take antihistaminic pills daily, it gives a red skin and vesicles. Redwood: mentioned is a possibly hallucinating effect. The pain was not gone, but he could better live with it, and no need for painkillers from now on. The calmness, and certainty about what he wants within the aspects of Silver series (the total of atmosphere, travel, worries, language, interest), are influenced by the impossibility, the pain, the nerve pathways that are broken, a Phase 7 aspect. Feeling, atmosphere, and communication points to Silver series. The sensitivity that he naturally had (Phase 4) no longer wanted, is even afraid of, so Phase 7. He wants to share his experience in dealing with pain and top sport, and 'present' it to others, presentation is a Silver aspect. He drives a vintage car. 'That is a car that you feel, that you understand, that you can take care of'.
