CUlture: Miss Havisham in Dickens’ Great Expectations.
They have had a relationship that is over but they still stay in the expectation that their loved one will come back, that he will realise that they are still their real love. They can keep on waiting for years, even when their friends, relatives and they themselves see their “delusion” as unreal. They keep on fantasising and speculating how and when their ex-love will come back.
Since they are still full of their old love, they cannot open for a new love. So they stay alone and can end up as old spinsters.
