Region: west tropical Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Congo, DR Congo.
Habitat: understorey tree in rainforest, including secondary forest; locally dominant along rivers; at elevations from sea-level to 500 metres; moist to wet, tropical lowlands.
Content: tannins; abundant latex.
Use: medicine; insect repellent, repels biting red ants; wood for materials; juice of the twigs for arrow poison; whitish pink wood for house construction; wood for fuel, burning with a hot flame.

Slender tree growing to about 13 metres tall, sometimes climbing habit.
