4.1 Cerium metallicum
The declaration of independence
Cerium can often be recognized by two symptoms. The first is the feeling of being in a bell-glass, in a cocoon. They have the feeling of not being in contact with the world. It’s as if there’s glass between them and the world. The second symptom is encountered more with children. They have a fear of new things. This is because they have the idea that they must be a master of situations and actions without practice. They must be able to do things without trial and error. So they practise in their mind and suddenly can do it.
For the homeopath they often feel as though they are on the alert, nervously trembling but without action. It’s a kind of strength that cannot be expressed due to a kind of timidity.
They want to state their autonomy. It is a kind of declaration of independence. They decide that they want to go for it but at the same time they have a fear of doing it. They don’t know what it is they’re going to do. They fear that something will go wrong, that the outside world will be stronger than they are. That can lead to a kind of frozen state. They want to do it and fear to do it. It is as if two equal forces are pulling in opposite directions and nothing happens. They have to assert their independence, but they lack the assertiveness or the audacity to do so
Entering the inner world
They have entered the inner world. It feels like a new world and it can feel wonderful to them. They can also feel amazed, as if they don't know where they are. They can feel stuck in there. They can experience it as if it has been there always but they didn't realize it.
They can also withdraw on purpose into their inner world. It can be out of an escape from a world that they see as threatening and not acknowledging their autonomy. They can look for freedom in their own world. As a child they can develop their own fantasy world.
Entering own world: cocoon
They feel as if they are in a cocoon. Seeing the normal world from their inside makes the outer world seem somewhat strange. It is as if they’re not automatically part of the whole world anymore. They can feel it as seeing the world from behind glass. It is as if they aren't really connected to the world. They have the idea that they don’t experience the world as real, or that they don’t experience the world at all. They can’t see the world properly, as it really is. They feel isolated, alone. They feel as if they are locked in, as if there’s no way out. They can feel as if they are in no-man's land, like the land between two countries.
Start of autonomy
They want to be very powerful, but they have to do it on their own. When they start something new they don’t know if they really can do it. They have decided that they have to control themselves. But at the same time they are startled by the idea and don't know what it means and if they can do it.
Officially having to do it yourself: fear new
They can’t stand failure. This is even more so because then others will try to help them and that’s the last thing they want, because then they will lose their independence. So they start thinking and imagining how it can be done. It’s as if they practise in their mind instead of in reality. And when they have practised enough in their mind, they suddenly can do it. They are the children that have a big fear of undertaking new things, but suddenly can do it without practising. This can be in walking, talking, bicycling, calculating, anything. It's a fear of new things which they cannot control.
Amazed on entering inner world
Because of the fact that they don’t want to show their weakness, they close off in their own world. It is as if they don’t have much contact with other people. They have to do it on their own. It can give them a feeling of isolation, of being in a shell, as if looking at the world from behind glass, as if they don’t really partake in the world.
They become untouchable, don’t want to be touched at all, especially not mentally. It is as if they still feel the hurt of being ridiculed (Barium) and teased (Lanthanum). And when people try to touch them anyway they can very easily become angry in the manner of “leave me alone”. If people don’t know how you feel and think, they can’t ridicule you either.
Starting spiritual development
They may decide on embark upon a spiritual path. But they feel it as something unknown. They don't know if they can do it, which makes them nervous.
They decide to be autonomous. But they feel it as an enormous thing. They are amazed when others accept their autonomy. But often they don’t dare to show it and keep their feeling and desire for autonomy inside.
Cerium decides to go into the inner world and is shocked by the possibilities of the negative. They fear what can go wrong and try to keep still.
