Botany: ± 10000 species; small, soft plants; grow close together in clumps or mats in damp or shady locations.
Taxonomy
The name Bryophyta can be confusing. Bryophyta formerly included not only mosses but also liverworts and hornworts. These other two groups of bryophytes are now placed in their own divisions. Bryophyta can also be used for all higher plants.
