The name is derived from the Greek word ‘xenos’, meaning strange. It was discovered in 1899. It is the rarest gas in our atmosphere.
It is being used in flashbulbs because its electronic structure is very loose and it can give an instant flash of very bright light. It is also used in tube lights, projection lights, electronic flash lights, solariums, lasers and arc lights.
